Job summary

KeyStaff Professionals- A Division of Midwest Staffing is seeking a Traffic Engineer PE in Chicago for a hybrid position. The role focuses on transportation design, traffic studies, and ITS implementations, with leadership responsibilities for staff and client coordination.

Required are a civil engineering degree and 4+ years in traffic engineering; Illinois PE license or eligibility within 6 months; strong analytical and writing skills; experience with OpenRoad Designer or AutoCAD and traffic

• 4+ years of related experience in traffic engineering, traffic studies, ITS, and/or transportation technology.

Responsibilities

• Mentor and develop engineering staff to support growth of the group.
• Collaborate with internal teams and external clients across multiple disciplines.
• Develop project deliverables including reports, plans, specifications, estimates, and utility coordination documentation.
• Develop conceptual, preliminary, and final transportation designs, including signing and pavement markings design.
• Oversee construction staging and work zone traffic control.
• Plan vehicle, pedestrian, and bicycle detour signing.
• Design fiber and network elements.
• Perform intersection control evaluations and signal/roundabout feasibility studies.
• Develop Transportation Management Plans.

Responsibilities:

• Mentor and develop engineering staff to support continued growth of the group
• Collaborate with internal teams and external clients across multiple disciplines
• Develop project deliverables including reports, plans, specifications, estimates, and utility coordination documentation
• Development of conceptual, preliminary, and final transportation designs, including
• Signing and pavement markings design
• Construction staging and work zone traffic control
• Vehicle, pedestrian, and bicycle detour signing
• Fiber and network design

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in civil engineering, traffic/transportation engineering
• 4+ years of related experience in traffic engineering, traffic studies, ITS, and/or transportation technology
• Illinois PE license or ability to obtain within 6 months
• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable motor vehicle record to travel to work sites and meetings as needed
• Ability to lead projects, manage technical tasks, and mentor staff
• Strong analytical, organizational, and technical writing skills
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications; experience with CADD platforms such as Open Road Designer or AutoCAD
• Experience with traffic engineering software, ITS/CAV systems, and/or transportation technologies
• Experience developing plans, specifications, and estimates (PS&E) preferred
