Job description

RK&K is seeking a motivated and creative Traffic Design Project Engineer with four (4) to eight (8) years of experience to join our traffic group in Wilmington, Delaware. Our Traffic team provides high-profile traffic and ITS design services through multiple contracts for clients in Delaware and surrounding states. Our projects aim to improve traffic operations and safety, promote healthy communities, and implement technology-based transportation solutions. As a Traffic Project Engineer, you will collaborate with a talented team of traffic engineers and transportation professionals, developing traffic engineering and ITS designs to enhance regional transportation systems.

Essential Functions
  1. Perform traffic engineering design plans and preliminary engineering design tasks.
  2. Support projects across all travel modes including highway, bus, rail, bicycle, and pedestrian in various environments.
  3. Develop traffic management strategies such as active transportation management, traffic signal systems, and AI-based systems.
  4. Prepare documentation and design plans for traffic control devices, ITS, signals, signing, pavement markings, and lighting.
  5. Develop technical specifications and cost estimates for construction documents.
  6. Provide construction phase services including shop drawing review, field meetings, and revisions.
  7. Prepare technical reports and presentations.
Required Skills and Experience
  1. Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering.
  2. 4-8 years of progressive experience in traffic engineering.
  3. Exceptional communication, presentation, and public speaking skills.
  4. Experience with MicroStation, GuideSIGN, AGI32, and Adobe Acrobat/BlueBeam.
  5. Knowledge of MUTCD, Highway Safety Manual, Highway Capacity Manual, and AASHTO guidelines.
  6. Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in Delaware or ability to obtain within six months.
Preferred Skills and Experience
  1. Master's Degree in Civil Engineering.
  2. Certified Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE).
  3. Project management experience.
Other Duties

Additional duties include supporting traffic signal studies, traffic operations activities, and Traffic Management Center planning. The role involves developing and implementing traffic management strategies and refining existing systems.
