Job summary

WSP in North Carolina seeks a Traffic Design Engineer to join our growing traffic practice in Charlotte or Raleigh with a hybrid schedule. The successful candidate will design traffic signals, roadway systems, and ITS components using OpenRoad Designer, MicroStation GeoPak, or AutoCAD.

Responsibilities include data collection, site investigations, and developing corridor improvement concepts, while ensuring DOT standards and safety.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Civil or Electrical Engineering
1–3 years of post-education design experience
Engineer in Training (EIT) certification within 6 months
Knowledge of DOT advisory circulars and procedures
Ability to compute and analyze plans and specs
Ability to inspect and investigate transportation corridors
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Self-leadership with attention to detail and prioritization

Responsibilities

Collect, analyze data from surveys, blueprints, GIS, maps, and other data for project development and construction.
Perform professional traffic engineering work, site inspections, and analysis of roadways and signals.
Develop concepts for intersection and corridor improvements coordinating with authorities and clients.
Design traffic signals and communication networks to improve corridor operations.
Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulatory requirements in design work.
Collaborate with engineers, planners, and staff to execute multiple projects.
