Job description

Garver is seeking a highly motivated Traffic Design Engineer in our St. Louis, MO office to add to our growing traffic and transportation planning team. The ideal candidate would have 2-5 years of related experience, a sharp technical background, and a strong passion for the profession. The position will offer the candidate an opportunity to play a key role in designing exciting projects for our DOT and municipal clients across our client footprint.

Applicants must have excellent problem-solving skills with a commitment to playing a key role in this extremely technical, highly productive design team. This position will be supervised by a Senior Project Manager and offers outstanding growth opportunity and career advancement to the right individual.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Developing intersection improvements plans
  • Preparing traffic signal plans
  • Preparing ITS plans
  • Preparing signing plans and pavement marking plans
  • Coordinating with multi-disciplinary teams and communicating concepts to clients

Additional duties include:

  • Assisting with project management to identify project scopes, fees, and monitoring project progress
  • Preparing project proposals and giving interviews for project pursuits
  • Performing direct client marketing and developing relationships with existing clients within our service area
  • Mentoring less experienced staff

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an ABET accredited engineering program
  • 2 - 5 years of experience with traffic specific projects
  • Proficient in MicroStation
  • Well organized with great attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills with a willingness to lead meetings and presentations
  • EI/EIT certification or ability to obtain in 1 year
  • Working knowledge of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and FHWA Sign Book
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with OpenRoads, SignCAD, and AutoTurn
  • Experience with fiber optic communication system architecture
  • Experience with developing Systems Engineering and Concept of Operation reports
  • Experience in marketing and managing local government projects
  • Experience working with State Departments of Transportation and municipalities within the Garver footprint
