Job summary

SpiveyServices in Virginia is seeking an experienced Traffic Control Supervisor II to lead field crews, coordinate complex work zones, and ensure VWAPM compliance and safety standards. The role entails hands-on supervision, on-site coordination with contractors and inspectors, and real-time problem solving on dynamic highway projects.

The ideal candidate has 3–5 years in traffic control with 2+ years in supervision, strong VWAPM knowledge, and the ability to train junior staff.

Qualifications

• Valid Virginia Driver’s License required.
• Must be able to work nights and weekends.
• 3–5 years of traffic control/construction field experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
• Strong knowledge of VWAPM traffic control principles.
• Experience managing crews on complex work zones.
• Ability to read, interpret, and implement traffic control plans independently.
• Experience driving larger trucks (18’–24’), non-CDL.
• Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to lift 50+ lbs and perform physically demanding outdoor work.
• Willingness to travel across regional job sites.
• Ability to pass criminal background check and drug screen.
• Availability for nights, weekends, and emergency deployments.

Responsibilities

• Oversee traffic control crews and ensure zones meet VWAPM and project requirements.
• Conduct daily field audits and take corrective actions as needed.
• Perform stationary and mobile lane closures on limited-access highways with proper setup and monitoring.
• Serve as primary on-site contact for contractors, inspectors, and leadership.
• Review and interpret complex traffic control plans for efficient layouts.
• Coordinate daily job readiness, staffing, and equipment deployment.
• Adjust work zones in real time for emergencies or changes.
• Provide hands-on training to new employees and supervisors.
• Model high standards of safety, productivity, and professionalism.
• Maintain logs of activities, attendance, safety observations, and incidents.
• Ensure vehicles and equipment are maintained and inspected.
• Communicate daily updates to Traffic Operations Manager.

KeyResponsibilities

• Overseetrafficcontrolcrewsandensureallworkzonesaresetup,monitored,andremovedaccordingtoVWAPMandproject‑specificrequirements.
• Conductdailyfieldaudits,verifycompliance,andexecutecorrectiveactionswhennecessary.
• Performbothstationaryandmobilelaneclosuresonlimited‑accesshighways,ensuringpropersetup,monitoring,andbreakdownoftrafficcontroldevicesinaccordancewithstateandfederalsafetystandards.
• Serveastheprimaryon‑sitepointofcontactforcontractors,inspectors,andcompanyleadershipforassignedprojects.
• Reviewandinterpretcomplextrafficcontrolplans;ensurecrewsexecutelayoutsaccuratelyandefficiently.
• Coordinatedailyjobreadiness,staffing,andequipmentdeployment.
• Adjustworkzonesetupsinrealtimetorespondtoemergencyconditions,projectchanges,orsafetyconcerns.
• Providehands‑ontrainingtonewemployees,Flaggers,TrafficControlAssistants,andSupervisorIpersonnel.
• Modelandenforcehighstandardsofsafety,productivity,andprofessionalism.
• Participateinonboarding,skillsassessments,anddevelopmentofjuniorsupervisors.
• Maintainaccuratelogsforjobactivities,crewattendance,safetyobservations,andincidentreports.
• Ensurevehicles,equipment,andmaterialsassignedtocrewsareproperlymaintained,stocked,andinspected.
• CommunicatedailyoperationalupdatestotheTrafficOperationsManagerordepartmenthead.
• Championasafety-firstcultureacrossallcrewsandsites.
• Conducthazardassessmentsandleadtailgatemeetingswhensupervisingmultiplecrews.
• Respondtoandhelpmanageanyfieldincidentsornear‑missesinaccordancewithcompanyprotocols.
