Qualifications

  • Train and schedule staff to provide coverage for daily operations and special events.
  • Directs traffic flow and reroutes traffic in case of accidents or emergencies.
  • Prepare required reports.
  • Assist with training for new Traffic Control Officers.

Job description

Under general direction, the Traffic Control Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily traffic and parking operations across campus to ensure the safe, efficient movement of pedestrians, vehicles, and bicycles as needed during peak traffic times at the University, during special events, or at accident scenes. This position manages a team of traffic control personnel and collaborates with campus police and security. Traffic Control Officers will not engage in traffic enforcement duties but will engage in traffic and crowd control under the guidance of, and in conjunction with, the Campus Police Department and the Chief of Campus Police.

QUALIFICATIONS: Education, Experience, and Training:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in traffic control, parking enforcement, or campus security.
  • Prior supervisory experience preferred
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Supervise and coordinate the work of traffic control officers and parking enforcement personnel.
  • Directs traffic to promote continuous mobility and prevent gridlock in a safe manner.
  • Monitor campus traffic flow and enforce university traffic and parking regulations.
  • Respond to and resolve traffic-related incidents, complaints, or violations.
  • Train and schedule staff to provide coverage for daily operations and special events.
  • Maintain current knowledge of state and local traffic laws and safety regulations.
  • Directs traffic flow and reroutes traffic in case of accidents or emergencies.
  • Notifies supervisor or Campus Police Officers of people who may have violated motor vehicle laws and pedestrian violations.
  • Prepare required reports.
  • Assists in parking enforcement as directed by the Campus Police Department.
  • Assists with the Welcome Centers as needed.
  • Assists events team with deploying and maintaining traffic control equipment (Cones, signage, barricades) as directed by Campus Safety or Events team.
  • Aid motorists and campus community members (e.g., jump-starts, escorts and giving directions).
  • Help maintain parking equipment, signage and lot conditions: report hazards or maintenance needs to appropriate department.
  • Serves as a Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Clery Act.
  • Assist with training for new Traffic Control Officers.
  • Assisting with evaluations for work performance.
  • Other duties assigned by Chief of Police.
