Job summary

U.S. Traffic Control West in California is hiring traffic control flaggers to safely direct vehicles around construction sites and protect workers. The role involves setting up zones, using hand signals and radios to manage traffic, and coordinating with crews to maintain safety.

Qualifications

• Pass a drug screen prior to employment.
• Valid driver's license with a clean record for a minimum of three years.
• Must be at least 21 years old.
• Knowledge of state traffic regulations.
• Willing to travel; housing provided when traveling.
• Willing to work overtime; extended shifts including weekends when needed.
• Provide steel-toe or composite work shoes for shifts.
• ATSSA certification preferred.
• Flagging experience: 1 year preferred.

Responsibilities

• Set up and maintain temporary work zones with signs, cones, paddles, and rumble strips.
• Communicate with other flaggers using radios to direct two-way traffic into a single lane.
• Use hand signals and signs to direct traffic around road construction sites.
• Inform tree crews of traffic issues affecting safety.
• Follow the safety manual and employee handbook.
• Communicate to prevent automobiles and pedestrians from interfering with laborers.
• Position warning and detour signs around project locations.
• Maintain regular, on-site attendance.
