This position plays a critical role in protecting employees, motorists, equipment operators, and the public by maintaining safe and efficient traffic flow in accordance with company policies, state regulations, and project traffic control plans.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesDirect traffic safely through construction and maintenance work zones using approved flagging procedures.Stop, slow, and release traffic as needed to maintain safe traffic flow.Communicate effectively with fellow flaggers, equipment operators, truck drivers, supervisors, and crew members.Set up, inspect, maintain, and remove traffic control devices, including signs, cones, barrels, barricades, and temporary barriers.Monitor traffic patterns and report unsafe conditions immediately.Remain alert to changing road, weather, and traffic conditions.Assist construction crews with general labor duties when traffic control responsibilities permit.Maintain a professional and courteous demeanor with the traveling public.Follow all company safety rules, policies, and procedures.Attend required safety meetings, training sessions, and toolbox talks.Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.Perform pre-shift inspections of traffic control equipment.Maintain a clean and organized work area.Complete all required documentation accurately and timely.Required QualificationsHigh school diploma or GED preferred.Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record preferred.Ability to obtain and maintain required flagger certifications.Knowledge of traffic control procedures and construction site safety practices preferred.Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.Strong communication skills.Reliable transportation and dependable attendance.Physical RequirementsAbility to stand and walk for extended periods.Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind.Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.Ability to bend, kneel, stoop, climb, and reach frequently.Ability to maintain focus and situational awareness for extended periods.Sufficient vision and hearing to recognize potential hazards and communicate effectively.Work EnvironmentOutdoor heavy construction and road work environments.Exposure to moving traffic, heavy equipment, dust, noise, mud, uneven terrain, and changing weather conditions.May require overtime, weekend work, night shifts, and travel to project sites.Safety ResponsibilitiesComply with all OSHA, state, local, and company safety requirements.Immediately report accidents, incidents, injuries, near misses, and unsafe conditions.Participate actively in company safety initiatives.Stop work and notify supervision when unsafe conditions exist.Performance ExpectationsEmployees in this position will be evaluated based on:Safety performanceAttendance and reliabilityTraffic control effectivenessCommunication and teamworkCompliance with company proceduresProfessionalism and public interactionProductivity and willingness to assist crewsQuality of work and attention to detailRequired CertificationsCurrent ATSSA Flagger Certification or ability to obtain certification upon hire.Certification must remain active throughout employment.Knowledge of MUTCD standards and work zone traffic control practices preferred.
