Job summary

Phoenix Spirit Group is seeking a Traffic Control Apprentice to maintain flow around construction zones and ensure the safety of workers, motorists, and pedestrians. This frontline position involves following safety guidelines and coordinating with the team to manage traffic using signs, flags, and signals.

You will work outdoors in various weather conditions, travel to different sites, and contribute to safe, efficient traffic management across the North and South Carolina areas.

Qualifications

• Candidates must be 20 years of age or older.
• Must be able to pass a drug screen.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
• Able to stand for 8+ hours in all weather conditions.
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred; certification provided by company.

Responsibilities

• Control vehicle and pedestrian traffic around work zones using handheld signs, paddles, or flags.
• Set up, maintain, and remove temporary traffic control zones including signs, barricades, and cones.
• Communicate clearly with drivers to guide safe traffic flow.
• Monitor traffic and construction activity to anticipate safety hazards.
• Coordinate with supervisors and other team members using radios/hand signals.
• Adhere to safety protocols and wear PPE.
• Warn workers when vehicles do not heed signals.
• Assist with loading/unloading traffic control equipment.
• Perform other work-related duties as assigned.
