Job summary

Santa Fe County is seeking a Traffic Calming Specialist to review, develop and implement traffic calming measures on County-maintained roadways, providing technical data for the road and transportation networks. You will administer the Traffic Calming Policy, perform field inspections, collect speed and volume data, operate counters and assist with analysis, reports, and policy updates.

The position requires collaboration with the Traffic Manager and Steering Committee, plus records management

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent plus 4 years of experience in traffic principles/practices or related field.
• Knowledge of MUTCD and ITE Traffic Calming State of Practice is required.
• Ability to prepare accurate reports in English and communicate effectively.

Responsibilities

• Administers and manages the Santa Fe County Traffic Calming Policy and suggests changes to align with MUTCD and ITE guidance.
• Reviews petition files, collects speed/volume data, conducts field inspections, and verifies eligibility.
• Answers questions and handles requests for information on traffic regulations, plans, and procedures.
• Analyzes traffic flow data to identify suitable calming measures and assists with summary reports.
• Operates traffic counters and records data on vehicular and pedestrian movements.
• Provides technical support regarding traffic control devices to staff.
• Places and retrieves automatic traffic counters using hand tools.
• Participates in meetings with the public and Steering Committee to prepare recommendations.
• Maintains records management practices and supports compliance with retention schedules.
