Job summary

City of Santa Fe Springs seeks a Traffic Technician to install, maintain and repair traffic devices in accordance with MUCTD and local laws. Work hours 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with standby and emergency callbacks as needed.

Under supervision, you will assist with traffic signals, signs and related devices, perform basic electrical repairs, read plans and diagrams, and support field studies on traffic conditions. A valid driver’s license and safety footwear are required.

Qualifications

• Requires a high school diploma or GED.
• One-year experience in electronics or electricity; or equivalent is preferred.
• Welding skills are preferred.
• A valid driver’s license is required.
• The ability to read and understand plan drawings and electrical circuit diagrams and schematics is preferred.
• Electronic or electrical repair is preferred.
• Position requires safety toe footwear.

Responsibilities

• Assists with the installation and maintenance of traffic signals, signs and devices such as traffic islands, street name signs, and painted traffic control lines.
• Assists with field studies to determine traffic volume, speed, effectiveness of signals and other factors influencing traffic conditions.
• Assists with electrical repairs in all city facilities.
• Climbs ladders or stands in tower-truck to reach traffic devices.
• Under direct supervision, test circuits and electronic components to detect faulty equipment.
• Under direct supervision, replaces blown fuses and bulbs, faulty transformers, timers, electrodes, and wires using electricians hand tools.
• Constructs and installs regulatory signs.
• Will be required to carry a pager when assigned stand-by duties.
