Job summary

The Lee County Utilities Department seeks a skilled Tradesworker – Water Infrastructure to maintain, repair, and install water distribution components, including lines, valves, meters, and fire hydrants. You will operate a range of equipment and may lead a crew as needed.

Requirements include a HS diploma or GED, six months of related utility experience, and Florida CDL with Tanker Endorsement within 90 days. Training and costs are provided.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED or equivalent education/experience.
• Six (6) months of relevant experience in public utilities or related fields such as water or sewer systems, natural gas, irrigation, plumbing, electrical, or telecommunications installation.
• Ability to work independently and make sound decisions with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Perform complex repairs, maintenance, and installations of water distribution infrastructure.
• Install, replace, and repair water lines ranging from 1"–36" in diameter.
• Maintain and repair water valves, meters, and fire hydrants.
• Operate mobile, heavy, and light equipment, including track hoes, backhoes, loaders, Vac-Con trucks, and dump trucks.
• Use hand and power tools specific to the water trade.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose issues within water distribution systems.
• Interpret and work from blueprints, diagrams, and technical sketches.
• Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and the public.

Education, Experience, LicensingWhat We’re Looking For

• High School Diploma or GED, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Six (6) months of relevant experience in public utilities or related fields such as:
• Water or sewer systems
• Natural gas
• Irrigation
• Plumbing
• Electrical
• Telecommunications installation
• Ability to work independently and make sound decisions with minimal supervision

Licensing Requirements

• Must possess a Florida Class A Commercial Learner’s Permit with Tanker Endorsement before receiving a job offer
• Must obtain a Florida Class A CDL with Tanker Endorsement within 90 days of hire

The Utilities Department will provide training, equipment, and cover all associated costs to help you obtain your CDL.

• Must complete and pass the DEP Level 3 Water Distribution Operator training course and exam within two years of hire

Safety-Sensitive Position

• This is a safety-sensitive position and is subject to Drug and Alcohol Workplace Testing in accordance with DOT regulations (49 CFR Parts 40 and/or 382)

Supplemental Information

Work Schedule Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:30 PM. Required on-call rotation, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
