Founded in 1924, the Oregon Institute of Marine Biology (OIMB) isthe third oldest marine laboratory on the Pacific Coast. The130-acre campus located about two hours from Eugene maintainshousing, teaching, and research facilities for University of Oregonstudents and faculty as well as visiting investigators and studentsfrom other institutions. Resident faculty are members of theBiology department and conduct research on the development,ecology, evolution, and physiology of marine organisms worldwidefrom the intertidal zone to the deep sea.
The Trades Maintenance Worker 1 (TMW1) supports the maintenance andoperation of facilities at the University of Oregon's OregonInstitute of Marine Biology (OIMB) campus. This position assistswith a variety of routine maintenance and repair tasks acrossmultiple trades, including carpentry, painting, plumbing, and basicmechanical systems, under the guidance of higher-level staff.
The TMW1 provides general support for facilities and groundsupkeep, including assisting with minor repairs, preparing surfacesfor painting, moving materials and equipment, pressure washing,landscaping, and debris removal. This position may also assist withfurniture and fixture repairs, basic shop support, and classroom orlab setup.
Work is performed both independently on assigned tasks and as partof a team, with direction provided by the Facilities Manager orhigher-level maintenance staff. The TMW1 follows establishedprocedures and guidelines while developing skills across multipletrades. Daily interactions with faculty, staff, and students occurwhile responding to maintenance needs and supporting campusoperations.
Due to the nature of the OIMB campus, work occurs in a variety ofindoor and outdoor environments, including exposure to inclementcoastal weather and physically demanding conditions. This positionmay occasionally assist with campus safety checks and supportessential operations during emergencies or inclement weather.
