Job description

The City of Raleigh is seeking a T rades Maintenance Specialist devoted to providing repair, maintenance and equipment operation for maintenance or operational function. Work may include performing preventive maintenance and repairs to building functions and/or grounds; operating assigned equipment; maintaining cleanliness of work area, tools and equipment; and following safety policies and procedures.

About Us:

Engineering Services is dedicated to providing services to internal and external stakeholders through multiple divisions including Construction Management, Integrated Facility Services, Facilities and Operations, Vehicle Fleet Services, Roadway Design and Construction, and Stormwater. This position is assigned to the Facilities and Operations Division, which is responsible for a diverse number of functions and activities that serves the entire City organization such as day-to-day and preventive operations and maintenance of facilities, customer-based service deliverables, special events and meeting set-ups, emergency response in inclement weather, disasters, or emergencies, and critical equipment management.

About You:

We are looking to employ reliable individuals with knowledge of the basic trades maintenance principals to provide exceptional support for the Facilities and Operations Maintenance program. Must have a strong work ethic with positive orientation and willing to learn and grow to prepare for the potential of future advancement.

  • Performs advanced maintenance, repairs, and certifications of backflows devices

  • Works closely with contractors on Fire Alarm Systems and Fire Sprinkler Systems for City of Raleigh facilities; operates required tools and equipment; performs work in accordance with operational and safety policies and procedures

  • Receives, prioritizes and schedules maintenance and work requests; make sure schedules and specific dates are met to ensure the City is in compliance at all times regarding Fire Alarm Systems, Sprinkler Systems and Backflows;

  • Responds to customer requests and concerns; troubleshoot, diagnose and identify issues; recommend and implement corrective action, repair and/or equipment replacement to resolve issues

  • Prepares, organizes, and maintains records, logs, reports and documentation

  • Operates City-owned vehicle to travel to various work sites where maintenance will be performed

Education and Experience:
Associate's Degree in area of assignment and three years of experience in area of training, with prior instructional or lead worker experience in the subject being taught

OR

An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.

Licensing and Certifications:
  • Valid North Carolina Class C Driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Standard practices, methods and materials of trade skill and maintenance

  • Able to operate assigned tools and equipment

  • To recognize occupational hazards and apply safety principles and practices

  • Utilizing communication and interpersonal skills to interact with coworkers, supervisors, the public and others to sufficiently exchange or convey information

  • Strong work ethic
