Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Leads and coordinates crew activities by assigning and inspecting work, developing daily and weekly work plans, training lower-level employees, and directing the crew in the absence of the foreman.
  • Installs, maintains, and modifies traffic signal systems by reading and interpreting plans, prints, and diagrams; installing electrical service equipment and signal components; verifying work meets current LADOTD standards and specifications; and maintaining proper traffic control in work zones.
  • Manages work documentation, safety, and equipment by using work order processing software to document labor, materials, and equipment; ensuring appropriate PPE is used; securing tools and equipment; and coordinating required equipment maintenance.
  • Responds to traffic signal emergencies by serving as a first responder to traffic signal knockdowns, conducting initial inspections, coordinating emergency response activities, and assisting with other emergency or disaster support activities as needed.

About This Position:

The Electrician Specialist Leader plays an important role in keeping Louisiana's traffic signal systems operating safely and reliably. This position provides hands-on leadership to electricians, electrician specialists, and apprentices while coordinating daily work, inspecting completed work, and ensuring projects meet DOTD standards. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated team leader who is comfortable working independently, enjoys solving problems in the field, and takes pride in helping their crew complete quality work safely and efficiently. This position also responds to traffic signal emergencies and helps ensure the crew’s equipment, tools, and work practices are maintained to DOTD standards.

While in official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Service laws, rules, and regulations, as also DOTD policies, procedures, manuals, and directives.

One year of the required experience for the following minimum qualifications must have been on-the-job experience:

Three years of experience or training in the electrical trade.
