Smith Arnold Partners is assisting a client seeking a Trade Compliance Specialist to join their Shelton, CT corporate office. This role offers high visibility, cross-functional exposure, and a chance to shape import compliance programs within a global industrial company.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
• 3+ years of Trade Compliance experience.
• Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills.
• Customs and Border Protection License or comparable experience.
• Experience working with customs brokers.
• Experience responding to CBP/DOC requests.
• Knowledge of CBP and DOC requirements.
• SAP and/or SAP GTS experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Work with the Manager of Import Compliance to ensure global trade compliance.
• Collaborate with operations to identify and mitigate trade compliance risks.
• Develop and maintain import compliance policies and work instructions.
• Support timely and accurate customs entries and regulatory reporting.
• Deliver trade compliance training to employees and partners.
• Monitor ACE for import activity and regulatory directives.
• Participate in quarterly business reviews with customs brokers.
• Conduct transactional compliance audits and drive improvements.

Salary: $85,000 - $105,000 +Bonus

Key Responsibilities

• Reporting to the Manager of Import Compliance, the Trade Compliance Specialist will work closely with businesses and operations to help ensure compliance with global trade and customs requirements.
• The position combines hands-on compliance work with cross-functional partnership, risk assessment, training, and interaction with customs brokers and regulatory agencies.
• Serve as a resource to all business units on trade compliance questions, requirements, and issues.
• Partner with operations teams to identify, assess, and mitigate trade compliance risks.
• Support the ongoing development and maintenance of import compliance policies, procedures, and work instructions.
• Collaborate with operations globally to help ensure customs entries are processed accurately and on a timely basis.
• Monitor Customs bonds to ensure they remain active and appropriate for import activity.
• Participate in quarterly business reviews with customs brokers.
• Perform and support transactional compliance audits and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Develop and deliver trade compliance training to appropriate employees and business partners.
• Monitor ACE for import activity, Customs inquiries, and regulatory directives.
• Work cross-functionally with internal stakeholders and external partners to promote a strong culture of trade compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience; Advanced degrees and/or relevant professional certifications are a plus.
• 3+ years of Trade Compliance experience.
• Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills with the ability to assess complex compliance issues and their potential business impact.
• Customs and Border Protection License or comparable experience required.
• Experience working directly with customs brokers.
• Experience responding to Customs and/or U.S. Department of Commerce requests, including CF-28 Forms and Post-Shipment Verification document requests.
• Working knowledge of Customs and Border Protection and U.S. Department of Commerce requirements.
• SAP and/or SAP GTS experience is a plus.
• Strong communication and relationship-management skills with the ability to work effectively across multiple business functions.
• Occasional travel, up to approximately 10-15%.
