Qualifications

Tractor Mechanic Duties/Responsibilities:

• Diagnose and repair tractors and trailers. Perform annual/systematic 90-day and HM-183 inspections (trailers) on equipment as required. Ensure equipment meets Federal FHWA standards.
• Operate a yard hostler truck to move trailers within the facility yard and the shop as needed.
• Order and receive parts and supplies as needed.
• Adhere to all established safety (OSHA) and environmental policies and standards, including proper handling or disposal of hazardous waste.
• Clean, organize, and maintain the work environment to ensure equipment longevity and workplace safety.
• Use welding equipment.
• Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned.
• Perform HM-183 DOT inspections (P,V,I,K,L,HS,UC) (EPA-M27).

Required Skills/Abilities for Tractor Mechanic:

• Must have at least 3 years of experience in repair and service of trailers and medium-duty trucks.
• Demonstrated knowledge of vehicle and equipment theory, principles, and repair relating to diesel engines, air, electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems.
• Knowledge of tractor and trailer maintenance, DOT rules and regulations, company policies and procedures.
• Ability to use vehicle diagnostic software.
• Up to 3 years as a fleet mechanic. DOT HM-183 certification, training, or experience. ASE Certification is not required but recommended.

Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or G.E.D. required.
