The Track Hoe Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating excavators and related equipment to support Thompson Concrete’s commercial concrete projects. This role plays an important part in site preparation, excavation, backfill, grading, material handling, demolition support, and maintaining production while working closely with foremen, superintendents, laborers, finishers, operators, and project teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate track hoes, excavators, and other assigned equipment on commercial concrete construction projects.
- Perform excavation, trenching, footing excavation, grading, backfill, loading, demolition support, and material movement as directed.
- Read and understand basic site plans, grade stakes, layout marks, elevations, and instructions from field leadership.
- Work closely with foremen, superintendents, laborers, finishers, and other operators to keep the job moving safely and efficiently.
- Complete daily equipment inspections and report maintenance needs, unsafe conditions, or mechanical issues right away.
- Maintain awareness of underground utilities, overhead hazards, nearby workers, equipment traffic, and changing jobsite conditions.
- Assist with setting up safe digging areas, access paths, spoil piles, staging areas, and jobsite logistics.
- Support concrete crews by preparing work areas, maintaining production flow, and helping keep equipment and materials organized.
- Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area throughout the shift.
- Follow Thompson Concrete safety standards, jobsite rules, OSHA requirements, and company procedures at all times.
- Communicate clearly with spotters, crew members, truck drivers, supervisors, and other trades working near the equipment.
- Represent Thompson Concrete with professionalism, teamwork, and pride in the work being performed.

Qualifications
- Previous experience operating track hoes, excavators, or similar heavy equipment in a commercial construction environment.
- Experience with excavation, trenching, footing work, grading, backfill, loading trucks, and working around concrete crews is preferred.
- Strong commitment to safety, including working around utilities, people, equipment, trucks, and active job site conditions.
- Ability to understand field direction, grade marks, layout, elevations, basic drawings, and daily work plans.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work well with foremen, superintendents, operators, laborers, and other trades.
- Dependable, production-minded, and willing to help the crew when equipment work slows down.
- Ability to perform daily equipment checks and identify maintenance or safety concerns before they become larger problems.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to meet company requirements may be required.
