Sparta Township, New Jersey, with a population of about 20,000, is seeking an experienced Township Manager to serve as its chief executive and administrative officer under the Faulkner Act. The Manager leads all municipal departments, the annual budget, personnel, labor negotiations, purchasing, and capital planning, implementing Council policies.
The salary range is $170,000–$225,000 with a competitive benefits package.

Set among the lakes and rolling hills of Sussex County, 45 miles from New York City, Sparta is one of New Jersey's most attractive communities: eleven private lake communities anchored by historic Lake Mohawk, top-rated schools, a lively business district, and a tradition of stable, nonpartisan council-manager government dating back to 1960. Appointed by a five-member elected Council, the Manager is the Township's chief executive and administrative officer under N.J.S.A. 40:69A-95 — responsible for all municipal departments, the annual budget, personnel, labor negotiations, purchasing, and capital planning, and for carrying out the policies set by the Council. Medical/prescription/dental benefits after 2 full months and participation in NJ Pension System or DCRP dependent on eligibility. Salary range $170,000-$225,000. The ideal candidate brings: Five or more years of progressively responsible management experience, preferably in municipal government, with a proven record in budgeting, personnel leadership, and organizational planning. A bachelor's degree (required); a master's in Public Administration or a related field (preferred). Working knowledge of New Jersey municipal law - the Faulkner Act, budget and public contracts law, and labor relations — or the ability to come up to speed quickly. A steady, accessible leadership style and the ability to earn the confidence of the Council, employees, residents, and community organizations alike. The Manager serves for an indefinite term at the pleasure of the Council. Residency in the Township is not required.
