Job Summary
Responsible for the installation of all aspects of wireless tower site electronics and hardware, cabling, and electrical where applicable.
Responsibilities
- Complete and maintain the tower safety and rescue training program.
- Climb and work on communications towers to install, replace, and repair antenna systems equipment and perform tower maintenance.
- Use hand tools and mechanical equipment safely and effectively.
- Recognize and mitigate hazards associated with tower climbing, construction equipment, and energized lines.
- Inspect completed work ensuring all hardware is tight, antennas are level, hangers are properly fastened, support is adequate, and weatherproofing is installed.
- Complete Job Safety Analysis (JSA) before each tower climb and document completion.
- Run power, ground, fiber, Cat5e and/or coaxial cables; check antenna positioning; adjust to accommodate azimuths and mechanical tilts as needed.
- Inspect telecommunications equipment to identify problems and adjust to ensure optimal performance.
- Transport equipment to work sites, load into position using rigging tools or equipment such as capstan hoist.
- Take site photos and create reports related to outages, project status, progress, or other work details using phone and computer software.
- Climb towers up to 500 feet with a load, ensuring safety equipment and techniques from tower safety and rescue training are used.
- Maintain a valid driver license and adhere to the Nextlink Vehicle Fleet Safety Policy.
- Take images needed to address work issues and other duties as assigned.
Skills
- Comfortable and recent experience working outdoors with basic hand tools.
- Basic computer skills; ability to check and send emails.
- Proficiency in corresponding through text messaging apps.
- Team-oriented mentality and safety-conscious approach.
- Capability to pass drug screening and criminal background checks.
- Ability to complete in-house training program.
- Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record per company policy.
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Working knowledge of basic hand tools, mechanical equipment, and electro‑mechanical equipment.
Job Classification
Field Operations – Tower, Non‑Exempt.
Working Environment / Hazards
- Outdoor elements such as cold, hot, precipitation and wind.
- Proximity to heavy machinery and moving vehicles.
- High noise level.
- Use of PPE.
- Climbing and working in an elevated position up to 500 feet.
- Comfortable working alone and with others.
Physical Demands
- Stationary position for 8‑10 hours a day.
- Frequently moving, transporting, positioning objects of 50 pounds or more.
- Pull own body weight plus equipment weight up a vertical tower repeatedly.
- Stand, walk, stoop, sit, climb ladders and communication towers, often at heights up to 500 feet.
- Use hand and power tools.
Working Hours / Days
Irregular hours Monday through Friday, full time minimum 40 hours, flexible schedule. Overtime and on‑call rotation required, including Saturdays and Sundays; rotation frequency based on team size.
Travel Requirements
20‑40% voluntary travel or as needed; overnight travel required as needed.
