Job Summary
Responsible for the installation of all aspects of wireless tower site electronics and hardware, cabling, and electrical where applicable.
Essential Functions
- Successfully complete and maintain the tower safety and rescue training program.
- Climb and work on communications towers to install, replace, and repair antenna systems equipment; perform tower maintenance.
- Use and care of hand tools and mechanical equipment.
- Recognize hazards associated with tower climbing, construction equipment, and working on or near energized lines and equipment.
- Inspect completed work to ensure hardware is tight, antennas are level, hangers are properly fastened, proper support is in place, or adequate weatherproofing has been installed.
- Complete Job Safety Analysis (JSA) before each tower climb, document it after completion.
- Inspect completed work to ensure proper functioning.
- Run appropriate power, ground, fiber, Cat5e, and/or coaxial cables.
- Check antenna positioning to ensure specified azimuths or mechanical tilts and adjust as necessary.
- Inspect telecommunications equipment for problems and adjust to ensure optimal performance.
- Climb tall structures up to 500 feet with a load.
- Analyze situations accurately and adopt an appropriate course of action.
- Communicate orally and in writing and follow instructions accurately.
- Take site photos or pictures of work performed.
- Transport equipment to work sites using utility trucks and equipment trailers.
- Lift equipment into position safely using rigging tools or equipment such as a capstan hoist.
- Complete reports related to outages, project status, progress, or other work details using phone and computer software.
- Ensure employee and tools weight combined does not exceed the 300‑pound limit specified by the manufacturer of safety equipment.
- Use safety equipment and techniques learned from the tower safety and rescue training program when climbing towers.
- Maintain a valid driver license and follow the Nextlink Vehicle Fleet Safety Policy.
- Capture images necessary to address work issues.
Skills
- Comfortable and recent experience working outdoors.
- Proficiency with basic hand tools.
- Team‑oriented mentality and safety conscious.
- Pass a drug screening test and a criminal background check.
- Pass the in‑house training program.
- Maintain a valid driver’s license with a safe and acceptable driving record in compliance with company policy.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Working knowledge of basic hand tools, mechanical equipment, and electro‑mechanical equipment.

Work Environment / Hazards
- Working in outdoor elements such as cold, hot, precipitation, and wind.
- In proximity of heavy machinery and moving vehicles.
- High noise level.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Climbing and work in an elevated position that is +/- 250 feet with climbing equipment.
- Comfortable working alone and working closely with others.
Physical Demands
- Stationary position for 8–10 hours a day.
- Frequently moving, transporting, and positioning objects of 50 pounds or more.
- Pull own body weight plus equipment weight up a vertical tower repeatedly.
- Stand, walk, stoop, sit, and climb ladders and communication towers and work in an elevated position that is +/- 250 feet.
- Use hand and power tools regularly.
Working Hours / Days
- Irregular hours Monday through Friday.
- Full Time, minimum 40 hours, flexible schedule.
- Overtime as needed.
- On‑call rotation required; frequency based on team size.
Travel Requirements
- 20–40% voluntary travel or as needed.
- Overnight travel required as needed.
