Job summary

Vallarta Supermarkets in Los Angeles is seeking a Tortillería Clerk to produce tortilla products, stock the department, and deliver exceptional customer service.

You will prepare masa, fry tortilla products, and ensure quality, safety, and sanitation while maintaining Vallarta’s high standards. Candidates should be reliable, customer-oriented, and able to work a flexible schedule including afternoons and weekends.

Qualifications

• Ability to learn tortilla production from dry corn to finished product.
• Familiarity with tortillería equipment, tools, and ovens (or willingness to learn).
• Team-oriented with strong communication and customer service skills.
• Responsible, professional, and positive attitude.
• Basic understanding of English language.
• Must be able to transfer to other store locations within a reasonable commute.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.
• Exposure to perishable products, cooking equipment, and changing conditions.
• Collaborative, team-focused environment.
• Must work flexible schedule: afternoons, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Customer Service: Smile, greet, and assist customers with tortilla and specialty product orders.
• Production: Prepare masa, fry and cook tortilla products, and ensure consistency in quality, weight, and appearance.
• Merchandising: Stock, rotate, and replenish products; keep displays fresh, attractive, and at proper storage temperatures.
• Operations: Package, weigh, and label flour and corn tortillas; transport products to and from storage.
• Sanitation & Safety: Clean equipment and work areas; sweep, mop, and follow “clean as you go” practices.
• Compliance: Follow health department regulations, food safety practices, and Vallarta’s Tortillería Safety Program.
• Teamwork: Assist coworkers, participate in training new employees, and maintain communication with the Tortillería Manager.
• Other Duties: Perform additional tasks assigned to support department operations and customer satisfaction.
