Job summary

Integrity Fab & Machine, Inc. is seeking a Torch Cut Operator to machine steel plates per blueprints and layout instructions using thermal-cutting equipment.

The role requires lifting and positioning heavy pieces, setting up torches, and maintaining cut quality in a manufacturing shop environment. The candidate should have a High School diploma and 2–3 years of experience with large torch cutting machines, with strong emphasis on safety and teamwork.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma required.
  • 2–3 years’ experience with large torch cutting machines preferred.
  • Ability to safely operate material handling equipment (forklifts, cranes, jibs).

Responsibilities

  • Lifts positions workpiece onto table, manually or using jib or crane.
  • Connects hoses from torch to oxygen/fuel gas tanks.
  • Selects torch tip, gas pressures, and speed of cut according to thickness.
  • Installs torch tip and starts pressure of fuel gas.
  • Lights torch and adjusts oxygen flow to achieve proper flame.
  • Directs flame along cutting line to maintain cut quality.
  • Removes finished workpiece and inspects for burrs or defects.
  • Chips or grinds burrs from edges with grinder.

Cuts, trims, or scarfs steel plates to dimensions, contour, or bevel specified by blueprints, layout, work order, or oral instructions, using thermal-cutting equipment

Essential Functions

  • Lifts positions workpiece onto table, manually or using jib or crane
  • Connects hoses from torch to oxygen tank fuel gas tank, like acetylene or propane
  • Selects torch tip, gas pressures, speed of cut, and allows for width of cut, according to thickness type of metal as computed from charts
  • Installs torch tip and turns handle to start adjust pressure of fuel gas
  • Lights torch and adjusts flow of oxygen to obtain desired mixture, as indicated by color size of flame
  • Directs flame on workpiece to heat it to oxidizing temperature, as indicated by color of metal
  • Squeezes lever or trigger to release additional jet of oxygen which burns path through metal
  • Guides flame along cutting line, observing cutting to judge angle, distance of torch, and speed of movement
  • Removes inspects finished workpiece
  • Chips or grinds burrs from edges, using power chisel or portable grinder
  • May lay out cutting lines, using rule, square, compass, or by tracing from template
  • May cut damaged or worn pieces from metal structure, like bridge or building frames, ship plates, or pipelines
  • Perform basic equipment maintenance in compliance with preventative/predictive schedules.
  • Communicate with co-workers, management, and others in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, work procedures and instructions.

Work Environment/Physical Demands

This job operates in a manufacturing shop environment with direct exposure to noise, chemicals, and materials consistent with a manufacturing environment is constant. This is a physically demanding position; maintaining the physical strength to lift materials up to 50 pounds, endure prolonged standing, dexterity, and stamina is necessary.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time or part-time position. This position is assigned to either a day or evening shift. Overtime work may be required as job duties demand.

Required Education And Experience

  • 2-3 years’ experience with large torch cutting machines
