Job summary

Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems in Rancho Bernardo, CA seeks a Software Development Lead – Software Engineering Manager 2 to guide embedded software teams within IPTs. You will manage performance, budgets, and schedules while delivering across multiple baselines.

The role requires strong leadership, hands-on C/C++/Python, and real-time OS experience with a focus on quality and timely delivery.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline with 9+ years of related engineering experience OR Master’s with 7+ years OR PhD with 4+ years.
Hands-on experience with at least two of: C, C++, Python.
Experience with real-time OS such as VxWorks, INTEGRITY, or Real-Time Linux.
Embedded software architecture knowledge and hardware interface impacts.
Strong communication, organizational, and time-management skills.

Responsibilities

Provide Functional Management to direct reports, including career guidance, performance management, staffing, onboarding, and disciplinary actions.
Lead Agile Scrum teams in design, implementation, test, and delivery of embedded software across multiple baselines and contracts.
Work with RTOS and hardware interfaces (1553, Serial, Ethernet/IP, etc.).
Own budget, schedule, and IMS reporting; coordinate with IPT leads, architects, and product owners.
Manage product quality, risk identification and remediation, support program reviews.
Collaborate with systems engineering, program management, and other teams to meet quality and cost objectives.
