Job summary

College of New Caledonia in Prince George, BC, is seeking a Toolroom Technician (Leave Replacement) to support the School of Trades and Technologies. You will manage inventory, perform safety inspections, and handle maintenance, ordering, and purchasing to ensure reliable support for student success.

The role requires a 4-year apprenticeship with Red Seal, 5+ years of maintenance experience, and strong problem-solving abilities. Occasional supervision of students and safety training are included.

Qualifications

• Completion of a 4-year apprenticeship program in the applicable program.
• Red Seal Certification in field of study.
• 5+ years demonstrated maintenance, repair and calibration experience.
• Ability to troubleshoot and solve problems to support program needs.
• Inventory management and purchasing experience are assets.
• WHMIS training required.
• Ability to work independently with multiple priorities.
• Level 2 First Aid or ability to obtain within 6 months.
• Forklift certification required or to be obtained within 6 months.
• MS Office proficiency; strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Physical ability to meet job demands.

Responsibilities

• Perform shop and compound safety inspections daily to maintain a safe working area.
• Inspect shop equipment daily and document as required.
• Manage inventory: receiving, inspecting, stocking, and disposal.
• Maintain maintenance manuals library, paper and digital.
• Support practical/shop components by ensuring consumables and tools are stocked.
• Request quotes, process purchases, and reconcile credit card receipts.
• Create work orders for building/shop maintenance when needed.
• Provide brief student supervisory support for safety.
• Maintain tools and equipment within certification scope and arrange repairs.
