Job summary

General Motors is seeking qualified Mechanical Journeypersons (Toolmaker) in Flint, MI. You will work with minimal supervision, handling multiple assignments per shift while solving problems and ensuring safety.

Preferred experience includes maintenance systems, predictive technologies, robotics, automation, and conveyance systems. The role involves assembly, repair, and operation of CNC tools and piping, with opportunities in conveyors and automation projects.

Qualifications

• At least six years in a mechanical trade (Toolmaker) or U.S. Department of Labor certificate.
• Must pass GM hiring assessments, drug test, and background check.
• Eligible to work in the United States; 18+.
• Flexible to work day, afternoon, night shifts and overtime with little notice.

Responsibilities

• Follow safety procedures per OSHA and company policies.
• Maintain, dismantle, repair, and replace mechanical and hydraulic components on industrial equipment.
• Lay out, assemble, fabricate, maintain, and repair piping systems.
• Use hand and power tools to measure, cut, thread, and install pipes, valves, and fittings.
• Read and interpret blueprints for conveyors, robots, and automation.
• Operate mobile equipment such as forklifts and cranes.
• Rig equipment and materials for lifting; determine loading requirements.
• Set up and operate CNC lathes, mills, and grinders to shape parts.
• Fabricate punches and tools; plan operation sequences.
