Job summary

Molex in Little Falls, Minnesota is seeking a Toolmaker to support die and mold fabrication, setup, and repair. You will read blueprints, set up machine tools, and inspect finished parts to ensure accurate dimensions.

Qualified candidates have a two-year technical degree and 2–5 years’ related experience, plus ability to interpret safety instructions and perform precise measurements. Heat-treat knowledge is required.

  • Able to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Knowledge of heat treating steels.

Responsibilities

  • Studies blueprints and computes specifications.
  • Plans sequence of operations for die/mold.
  • Measures and marks metal stock for machining.
  • Operates machines to shape dies and molds and verify dimensions.
  • Uses surface grinder to finish parts.
  • Assembles die or mold and checks fit.
  • Reviews dies, molds, tools, and fixtures for possible design improvements.
  • Maintains records of maintenance on tools.

Molex in Little Falls Minnesota is currently hiring for a Toolmaker.

Our Team

Analyzes specifications, sets up and operates machine tools, and fits and assembles parts to fabricate and repair metalworking dies and molds, cutting tools, jigs, and fixtures, gauges, and hand-tools.

What You Will Do
  • Studies blueprints of product and die or mold and computes specifications.
  • Plans sequence of operations, visualizing shape of die or mold in reverse of product.
  • Measures, marks and scribes metal stock to lay out for machining.
  • Gives machining specifications to Tool Machine Set Up Operators or sets up and operates machines such as vertical mill, engine lathe and CNC milling machine to machine outer dimensions and contoured cavity of die or mold.
  • Uses surface grinder to fit parts for assembly and to smooth and finish cavity.
  • Assembles die or mold. Verifies dimensions.
  • Examines standard or previously used dies or molds, tools, and jigs and fixtures, and recommends design modifications regarding construction and function of part.
  • Keeps an accurate record of maintenance performed on all tools.
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
  • Completion of a two year vocational, trade, or technical degree,
  • Two to five years of related experience or training; and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  • Knowledge of heat treating steels required.
