Job summary

Socket.dev in Houston is seeking an entry‑level Tooling Technician to support teardown, rebuild, cleaning, staging and basic inspection of OCTG tooling components in a manufacturing environment.

You will follow work instructions and supervisor direction, learn mill stand and slitter head build procedures, perform basic measurements, and progress toward independent assembly while upholding safety, quality, and housekeeping.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED preferred but not required.
• 6 months – 1 year of experience in OCTG manufacturing preferred.
• Safe use of hand tools, presses, and cranes (with training).
• Basic blueprint and setup sheet reading.
• Ability to identify damaged vs acceptable tooling with guidance.
• Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills required.
• Microsoft Office skills and ability to use maintenance system.

Responsibilities

• Assist with teardown and rebuild of mill stands, roll sets, ID bars, and slitter heads.
• Clean, inspect, and stage tooling components for upcoming production runs.
• Assist with knife handling, roll handling, and component transport using cranes and carts.
• Tag, store, and organize tooling after removal from production.
• Perform basic measurements (OD, ID, knife thickness, spacers) under guidance.
• Follow work instructions, setup sheets, and supervisor or senior technician direction.
• Maintain housekeeping and tool organization in tooling areas.
• Report damaged tooling and abnormal conditions to senior technicians or lead.
• Participate in structured on-the-job training.
• Learn basic mill stand and slitter head build procedures.
• Progress toward independent component assembly capability.
• Other duties as assigned.
