Sea Fox Boats in Charleston, SC is seeking a skilled Tooling Technician to join our production team building molds, plugs, jigs, and tooling for boat manufacturing.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience with epoxy application, composites, fiberglass, or boat building is required.
  • Strong hands-on mechanical and fabrication skills.
  • Experience using grinders, sanders, brushes, table saws, compound miter saws, and other hand and power tools.
  • Ability to accurately measure, cut, shape, fit, and finish materials.
  • Ability to read and follow drawings, blueprints, laminate schedules, and production specifications.
  • Experience with epoxy composite layup and/or epoxy pasting.
  • Ability to safely work with fiberglass, epoxy resins, catalysts, and related materials.
  • Experience with welding equipment; MIG/TIG experience preferred.
  • Ability to safely operate a forklift or willingness to obtain forklift certification.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality craftsmanship.

Responsibilities

  • Fabricate jigs, plugs, fixtures, and structural components used in boat production.
  • Operate woodworking machinery and power tools to cut, shape, and assemble components.
  • Cut and shape EPS foam using hot-wire equipment for hulls, decks, small parts, and other tooling applications.
  • Combine foam shaping, woodworking, and composite fabrication techniques to produce accurate parts.
  • Prepare surfaces and apply fiberglass cloth using epoxy resins and related materials.
  • Measure, mix, and apply epoxy paste, resins, and catalysts according to specifications.
  • Safely operate epoxy pasting equipment for accurate application of epoxy paste.
  • Perform composite layup and related finishing work to produce quality tooling and components.
  • Read and follow blueprints, laminate schedules, drawings, and welding prints.
  • Perform MIG/TIG welding and other metal fabrication tasks as needed.
  • Set up and safely operate welding equipment and related shop tools.
  • Measure, fit, adjust, and finish components to meet production specifications.
  • Inspect completed work to ensure accuracy, structural integrity, and finished quality.
  • Identify defects, inconsistencies, or fabrication issues and make appropriate corrections.
  • Safely operate forklifts to move materials, molds, tooling, and finished components.
  • Handle long, oversized, and fragile materials and components safely.
  • Maintain proper PPE, ventilation, and workplace safety practices when working with epoxy, fiberglass, welding equipment, and shop machinery.
  • Keep work areas, tools, machinery, and equipment clean, organized, and in good working condition.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, engineers, and fellow craftsmen regarding production requirements and concerns.
  • Work cooperatively with other team members to meet production goals and maintain an efficient workflow.

Pay Range: $18.00 - $28.00 per hour (Actual pay offered will be based on experience, skill level, and qualifications.)

Position Summary

Sea Fox Boats is seeking a skilled and dependable Tooling Technician to join our production team. This position plays an important role in building the molds, plugs, jigs, and tooling used to manufacture high-quality boats.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on craftsman with experience in epoxy/composite work, EPS foam shaping, woodworking, and welding. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working with their hands, solving problems, and turning raw materials into accurate, production-ready components.

The Tooling Technician works with a variety of shop tools, machinery, materials, and fabrication techniques while maintaining high standards for accuracy, quality, safety, and craftsmanship.

Key Responsibilities
  • Fabricate jigs, plugs, fixtures, and structural components used in boat production.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience in the marine manufacturing or boat-building industry.
  • Experience with tooling, plug building, mold building, or composite fabrication.
  • MIG and/or TIG welding experience.
  • AWS welding certification or other applicable welding credentials.
  • Forklift certification.
  • Experience working with oversized, long, or fragile materials.
  • Additional experience with epoxy composite fabrication and finishing.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, climb, and reach for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and move materials and components as required.
  • Ability to work safely around fiberglass, epoxy, resins, welding equipment, woodworking machinery, dust, noise, and varying temperatures.
  • Ability to work with hand tools, power tools, machinery, and fabrication equipment throughout the workday.
  • Ability to work around boats, molds, plugs, tooling, and other large production components.
  • Ability to wear required PPE and follow all safety procedures.
  • Must be comfortable performing repetitive hand and arm movements associated with fabrication and finishing work.
