Job description

We are seeking an experienced Tooling Manager to lead our tooling department in a fast‑paced metal stamping environment. In this critical leadership role, you will oversee the design, build, maintenance, repair, and optimization of progressive dies, stamping tools, and related equipment to ensure maximum uptime, quality, and cost efficiency. Key Responsibilities

• Lead the full tooling lifecycle, including new tool design, build, try‑out, commissioning, and ongoing maintenance for progressive and transfer stamping dies.
• Develop and implement predictive and preventive maintenance programs to minimize downtime and extend tool life.
• Collaborate with engineering, production, quality, and maintenance teams to troubleshoot tooling issues, resolve production problems, and support new product launches.
• Manage tooling suppliers and external vendors for outsourced repairs, modifications, and new builds while controlling costs and ensuring timely delivery.
• Oversee tool room operations, including budgeting, inventory management, and resource allocation.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on tool performance, scrap reduction, setup time reduction (SMED), and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
• Ensure compliance with safety standards, quality requirements (IATF 16949 or similar), and company policies.
• Mentor, train, and develop tool & die makers, technicians, and support staff; foster a culture of accountability and technical excellence.
• Monitor key performance metrics and provide regular reports to senior leadership.

Qualifications & Requirements

• 7+ years of progressive experience in tooling management or tool & die leadership within a metal stamping environment.
• Strong technical expertise in progressive dies, stamping processes, metallurgy, and die troubleshooting/repair.
• Proven track record managing tool maintenance programs and reducing downtime in high-volume production.
• Experience with CAD/CAM software, tool design principles, and lean manufacturing methodologies (preferred).
• Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to manage and develop technical teams.
• Excellent problem‑solving, communication, and project management abilities.
• High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Technology, Mechanical Engineering, or related field preferred.
• Tool & Die Maker apprenticeship or Journeyman certification is a strong plus.
