Job summary

MPI is seeking a Tool Engineer / Project Manager for a privately held injection molding manufacturer in the Akron area. You will lead mold design and end-to-end APQP activities, coordinating with customers, suppliers, and internal teams to ensure on-time, on-budget program delivery.

The role requires a strong background in tooling engineering, mold development, and project management, with hands-on MFA experience and SolidWorks proficiency.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in plastics tooling / mechanical engineering.
• 6+ years in tooling engineering, mold making, or mold design in plastics injection molding.
• Strong knowledge of injection mold design, materials, equipment, and processes.
• Experience using 3D CAD software (SolidWorks preferred).
• PMP or equivalent project management certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate manufacturability, tooling risks, costs, and lead times.
• Review and approve injection mold designs per specs and standards.
• Lead project review meetings and oversee milestones and deliverables.
• Collaborate with tooling suppliers on mold development from concept to production.
• Coordinate with manufacturing, quality, and supply chain for launches.
• Serve as primary customer/supplier contact; manage status, costs, and scope changes.
• Utilize ERP, APQP, and PM systems to track progress and schedules.
• Develop quotations, tooling budgets, and supplier estimates.
