Job summary

MPI is seeking a Tool Engineer / Project Manager for a U.S.-based plastics manufacturer. The role combines injection mold engineering with end-to-end project management for new and existing customer programs, serving as the primary technical liaison between customers, suppliers, and internal teams.

You will oversee mold design, tooling procurement, APQP activities, engineering changes and production launches, ensuring programs are delivered on time, within budget, and to quality standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Plastics Engineering, Polymer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
• 6+ years in tooling engineering, mold making, or mold design in plastics injection molding; or 3+ years with relevant degree.
• Strong knowledge of injection mold design, mold construction, materials, and molding processes.
• Experience using 3D CAD software; SolidWorks preferred.
• Hands-on experience with Mold Flow Analysis (MFA).
• Proven ability to manage technical projects from concept through production launch.
• Familiarity with formal project management methodologies; PMP or equivalent preferred.
• Strong collaboration with customers, suppliers, and cross-functional teams.
• Commitment to quality and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate manufacturability concerns, tooling risks, cost-reduction opportunities, and lead time improvements.
• Review and approve injection mold designs to meet specifications and standards.
• Lead project review meetings and oversee project deliverables and milestones.
• Collaborate with tooling suppliers from concept through production release.
• Coordinate with manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and admin teams for program launches.
• Serve as primary point of contact for customers and suppliers to ensure deadlines and quality targets.
