Job summary

Howmet Aerospace, based in Fullerton, CA, is seeking a Designer I for its fastener systems division. The role focuses on designing forming tools, dies, and fixtures, applying GD&T, and developing detailed drawings to support high-volume production.

You will collaborate with engineering, shop floor, and quality teams, optimize tool life, and ensure cost and performance targets are met. A Bachelor’s degree and SolidWorks proficiency are required.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of tooling design experience in high-volume manufacturing (aerospace/auto/medical).
• Proficient in GD&T and SolidWorks for parts and assemblies.
• Able to create 3D models and detailed drawings.
• Authorized to work in the United States; visa sponsorship not available.

Responsibilities

• Tool Design: Create tools for fastener manufacturing and related equipment; develop sketches, layouts, and drawings.
• Documentation: Prepare drawings, notices, specs, and inspection standards; manage Tool Change Control (TCR) records.
• Design Review & Optimization: Verify and improve tooling designs; perform calculations and layout to optimize designs.
• Collaboration: Work with manufacturing floor personnel to troubleshoot tooling issues.
