Job summary

SpaceX in Texas is seeking a Tooling Design Engineer, Solar Cells, to design, build, and optimize mechanical and automation systems for solar cell manufacturing equipment and material movement mechanisms.

You will own subsystems from concept through high-volume production, drive system-level optimization, and perform FMEA, reliability modeling, and stress testing to maximize uptime and yield in SpaceX's cutting-edge solar cell factory.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering required.
• Experience with CAD and FEA software packages.
• 1+ years of professional mechanical/electromechanical design, analysis, testing, and/or manufacturing experience.

Responsibilities

• Own electronics manufacturing subsystems from concept through high-volume production.
• Develop design criteria, collaborate on requirements, and drive system-level optimization.
• Test and iterate on products with FMEA, reliability modeling, and stress testing.
• Design and develop production lines, including robot end effector design, process development, control systems, and automation.
• Uptime optimization: monitor equipment uptime and implement preventive maintenance schedules.
• Evaluate and select equipment suppliers; oversee installation and performance to meet targets.
