Job summary

SpaceX in Texas seeks a Tooling Design Engineer, Solar Cells (Starlink). You will design, build, and optimize mechanical and automation systems for solar cell manufacturing equipment, taking ownership of existing systems and developing new tooling to scale production.

The role requires detail-oriented engineering, safe electrical design, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to maximize uptime and efficiency in our Starlink manufacturing lines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering.
• Experience with CAD and FEA software.
• 1+ year of mechanical/electromechanical design, analysis, testing, and/or manufacturing (internship can count).

Responsibilities

• Own electronics manufacturing subsystems from conceptual design through high-volume production and automation ramp.
• Develop design criteria, collaborate on requirements, and drive system-level optimization.
• Test and iterate on products via FMEA, reliability modeling, and stress testing to predict and mitigate failures and drive OE.
• Design and develop production lines that manufacture the product, including robot end effector design, process development, control system design, automation programming, and more.
• Uptime optimization: track equipment uptime metrics; identify bottlenecks and implement preventive measures like predictive maintenance.
• Evaluate and select equipment suppliers; oversee installation, commissioning, and performance of vendor-procured equipment to ensure target rate, yield and uptime.
