Job summary

Legrand, the global specialist in electrical and digital building infrastructures, seeks a Tooling & Equipment Engineer II in Conover, NC. You will manage tooling and equipment across Legrand facilities and suppliers, ensuring capability maintenance and supporting new builds, including precision sheet metal fabrication and prototyping.

Ideal candidates have a BS in Mechanical Engineering or Tool Maker Journeyman Certification, with 2–4 years in tooling in manufacturing and SolidWorks

Qualifications

  • Bachelor-level mechanical engineering or equivalent tooling certification.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage tooling and equipment in a manufacturing setting.
  • Experience with tool/equipment lifecycle management and capital budgeting.

Responsibilities

  • Manage tooling and equipment at Legrand DAT facilities and supplier sites globally.
  • Support new tooling/equipment builds for new products.
  • Oversee precision sheet metal fabrication prototyping.
  • RFQ tooling/equipment at vendors and provide cost analysis to engineering and sourcing.
  • Coordinate tooling builds, repairs, refurbishments and ECN changes.
  • Collaborate with Product Design Engineers to determine tooling needs.
  • Travel as necessary to support facilities.

Job description

Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Tooling & Equipment Engineer II to join the Power & Thermal Management division in Conover, North Carolina.

The Tooling & Equipment Engineer II is responsible for managing the tooling and equipment at Legrand DAT facilities and at supplier facilities globally. This includes maintaining existing tooling/equipment capabilities and supporting new tooling/equipment builds for new products. Responsible for precision sheet metal fabrication and prototyping.

  • Track and monitor existing tooling/equipment lifecycle counts and condition to determine when refurbishment or replacement is required. Plan capital budget to meet these requirements.
  • Provide support at vendor and manufacturing facilities to resolve manufacturing or quality issues and keep production flowing.
  • Work with Product Design Engineers to determine tooling/equipment required to produce new products.
  • Manage all tooling and equipment builds, repairs, refurbishments, and ECN modifications.
  • Manage precision sheet metal fabrication prototype shop.
  • RFQ tooling/equipment at vendors along with piece-part costs. Provide results to Engineering, Product Management, and Sourcing.
  • Perform other related duties as required to keep projects moving forward and maintain production of parts.
Education
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or Tool Maker Journeyman Certification with experience in a manufacturing environment.
Experience
  • 2-4 years of related work experience with tooling support in a manufacturing facility.
  • Familiar with SolidWorks 2D/3D modeling software.
Qualifications
  • Manufacturing process knowledge:
    • Injection molding
    • Precision metal stamping
    • Assembly (manual and automated)
    • Precision sheet metal fabrication & prototyping
  • Willingness to learn more about these processes.
  • Must be highly collaborative and able to work in a team-based environment.
  • Must have strong computer skills and be proficient with Microsoft Office word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, database, e-mail, and meeting management software.
  • Ability to use internet and web-based resources efficiently and effectively.
  • Requires strong organizational and time management skills, close attention to detail, and the ability to effectively handle multiple priorities.
  • Must possess project management skills, including demonstrated ability to develop and manage a project plan, establish priorities, work to deadlines, and control a number of projects at various stages of work.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and be able to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization.
  • Must be an effective listener, able to extract necessary information and validate understanding of the information.
  • Foster open communication and support an environment of innovation and creative change.
  • Willing to travel as necessary
