Legrand AV, Inc. is seeking a Mechanical Engineer 1 to support the commercialization, application, and customization of Power & Thermal Management products.

You will work under supervision with a focus on design-for-manufacturability, testing, and documentation, collaborating across Production, Quality, and Purchasing teams. The role involves assisting in customer-specific Starline projects, maintaining engineering information systems, and supporting lab testing and certification via UL, CSA,

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Inventor or VAULT.
  • Travel up to 10% domestically and internationally.

Responsibilities

  • Conceptualize and implement Design for Manufacturability (DFM) / Test (DFT) / Assembly (DFA) and Full Turnkey solutions.
  • Support the engineering team for commercialization and launch of Starline-designed products.
  • Perform mechanical design tasks for customer-specific customizations of Starline products.
  • Create technical documentation: drawings, O&M manuals, installation instructions, work instructions, catalogs.
  • Assist in integrating third-party products with Starline offerings.
  • Conduct testing to verify performance, integration, and standards compliance.
  • Collaborate with Production, Quality, and Purchasing to ensure manufacturability.
  • Support improvements to engineering information systems and access to production stakeholders.
  • Assist in automating design tasks.
  • Provide jobsite support.
  • Collaborate with labs (UL, CSA, Intertek ETL) and international agencies.
  • Provide lab testing support.
  • Participate in team initiatives.

Job description

Role:

The Mechanical Engineer 1 provides engineering support for the commercialization, application, and customization of all Power & Thermal Management Division products, working under clearly defined guidelines and under close supervision of the manager and other engineers.

Main Job Duties:
  • Conceptualize and implement Design for Manufacturability (DFM) / Test (DFT) / Assembly (DFA) and Full Turnkey solutions.
  • Support the engineering team tasked with the commercialization and launch of Starline-designed products.
  • Perform mechanical engineering design tasks in support of customer-specific customizations of Starline products.
  • Assist in creating technical documentation such as drawings, O&M Manuals, installation instructions, work instructions, and product catalogs.
  • Support the integration of third-party products with Starline's product offerings.
  • Conduct testing under supervision to verify product performance, system integration, and compliance with applicable standards.
  • Partner with Production, Quality, and Purchasing staff to ensure product manufacturability.
  • Assist in supporting improvements to Starline's engineering information systems to ensure high-quality engineering information is provided to production and other customers of this information.
  • Support the automation of design tasks.
  • Provide jobsite support.
  • Collaborate with certification laboratories such as UL, CSA, and Intertek (ETL), as well as various international agencies.
  • Provide lab testing support.
  • Participate in team-based initiatives within Starline.
Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Relevant experience in the mechanical engineering field, either in a professional or academic setting.
  • Familiarity with low voltage power distribution equipment preferred.
  • Familiarity with electrical codes and standards preferred.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required up to 10%.
  • Relevant internship/co-op experience preferred.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
  • Experience using AutoCAD, Inventor, and/or VAULT.
  • Experience with an ERP system preferred.
  • Exceptional organizational, time management, communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools.
  • Familiarity with principles and processes for providing customer satisfaction, including customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
  • Familiarity with project management processes and principles.
Personal Qualities/Behaviors:
  • The performance of this position may occasionally require exposure to manufacturing areas where, in certain areas, the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses and mandatory hearing protection is required.
  • Able to sit for prolonged periods of time.
  • Able to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
