Job Description Summary

Interact with Crew Supervisor and Manufacturing Specialists to provide needed tooling and direction for assisting employees in making products that meet Customer expectations at or above the established productivity levels.

Job Description

REPORTS TO: Reports directly to the Tool Room Supervisor, indirectly to the Tool Room Machinist.

Responsibilities

• Operate Makino Milling Machines and other tool room equipment as trained (e.g., Wheelabrator, manual mill, grinders).
• Prepare tooling, including breakdown, cleaning, and building.
• Measure step heights on punches and log data.
• Maintain punch records, sign-out sheets, and dispense to oven sheets.
• Receive and inspect tooling from vendors.
• Support tool path programming for Makino mills.
• Operate computers to transfer programs.
• Work safely and assist with tooling inventory.
• Support training for Tooling Specialists.
• Perform daily/monthly operator preventive maintenance.
• Ensure production readiness of Tool and Die.
• Perform other tasks as assigned.

Experience & Skills

• Minimum two years’ experience in developing powder metal tooling, preferred.
• Minimum two years’ experience in tooling development, preferably with automotive customers.
• Basic computer knowledge.

Knowledge/awareness in the following

• CNC/machining background, a plus.
• Blueprint reading, a plus.
• Use of Drill Press, Sawing.

Competencies

• ISO9001/IATF16949/ISO14001 awareness.
• Understanding of CNC mill details post-heat treatment.
• Continuous Improvement, Customer Requirements, Ethical Practice.
• General Housekeeping, Health & Safety, Machine Safety, Lock-out/Tag-out.
• Material handling, hazardous materials management.
• Preparing details for CNC machines, Preventive Maintenance, Risk-Based Thinking.
• Manual tool use on steel from CNC milling.
