Job summary

Vollrath seeks a Tool & Product Engineer to drive development and launch of deep drawn and metal-stamped products from concept to production. You will estimate costs, design tools, and lead tool designers while ensuring quality, manufacturability, and cost competitiveness.

Engage with sales, product management, and suppliers, and provide leadership across the development cycle. Travel up to 10% may be required and strong CAD tooling experience is essential.

Qualifications

• Degree or journeyman credential in tool design with CAD-based tooling and project management experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering is preferred.
• Minimum five years in Tool and Die design related to metal forming and manufacturing.
• Ten years in metal forming tools and manufacturing is preferred.
• CAD experience, preferably SolidWorks.
• Tool and Die knowledge.
• Understanding of inspection/measurement equipment.
• Strong problem-solving and project-management abilities.
• Ability to manage several projects at different stages.

Responsibilities

• Estimate new product part costs and tooling or equipment investments.
• Design tools to be built internally or outsourced with vendors.
• Direct and train tool designers in best practices.
• Support quality and production in new product introductions and cost-reduction projects.
• Develop part production processes to meet quality and customer requirements.
• Manage tool build process from designer selection to validation.
• Engage with other Vollrath teams as needed.
• Provide manufacturing support for cost reduction and process improvement.
• Travel up to 10% to customers and vendors.
• Identify and implement process improvements for cost reduction and quality.
