Job summary

Baker Hughes in the United States is seeking a Tool Maker II to build, repair, and maintain precision tooling, fixtures, gauges, and production equipment in close collaboration with Manufacturing Engineering, Automation Engineering, and CNC Machining teams.

You will help deliver tooling solutions that improve safety, quality, productivity, and operational efficiency while supporting new product introductions and automation initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or technical diploma in Tool Making or related discipline.
  • 10+ years in tool making, mold making, fixture building or precision manufacturing.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings, CAD models, and GD&T requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble and fit production tooling, fixtures, gauges, and precision components from drawings.
  • Repair and modify tooling to support production and reliability.
  • Operate manual and CNC machines to fabricate components.
  • Respond to tooling issues to minimize downtime and maximize efficiency.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing, Automation, and Design Engineering on tooling solutions.
  • Support automation projects by fabricating machine components and fixtures.
  • Verify dimensional accuracy with precision instruments and inspection equipment.
  • Participate in root cause investigations and implement corrective actions.
  • Maintain a safe, organized work environment and support continuous improvement.
  • Contribute to safety, quality, delivery and cost performance initiatives.

As Tool Maker II, you will play a critical role in supporting manufacturing operations by building, repairing, and maintaining precision tooling, fixtures, gauges, and production equipment. Working closely with Manufacturing Engineering, Automation Engineering, CNC Machining, Quality, and Production teams, you will help deliver tooling solutions that improve safety, quality, productivity, and operational efficiency while supporting new product introductions and automation initiatives.

As a Tool Maker II, you will be responsible for:
  • Building, assembling, and fitting production tooling, fixtures, gauges, and precision components from engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Repairing, troubleshooting, and modifying existing tooling to support production requirements and improve reliability.
  • Operating manual and CNC machining equipment to fabricate precision components.
  • Supporting production operations by responding to tooling-related issues and minimizing downtime.
  • Collaborating with Manufacturing, Automation, and Design Engineering teams to develop tooling solutions for new and existing products.
  • Supporting automation projects by fabricating and modifying machine components, fixtures, and robotic tooling.
  • Verifying tooling dimensional accuracy using precision measuring instruments and inspection equipment.
  • Participating in root cause investigations and implementing corrective actions for tooling failures.
  • Maintaining a safe, organized, and efficient work environment while complying with company safety requirements.
  • Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance safety, quality, delivery, and cost performance.
To be successful in this role you will:
  • Have an associate degree, Technical Diploma, Apprenticeship, or equivalent experience in Tool Making, Machining, Manufacturing Technology, or a related discipline.
  • Have 10+ years of experience in tool making, mold making, fixture building, machining, or precision manufacturing.
  • Have strong knowledge of machining processes including milling, turning, grinding, fitting, and assembly.
  • Have the ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, CAD models, and GD&T requirements.
  • Have experience using precision measuring equipment such as micrometers, calipers, indicators, height gauges, and optical inspection systems.
  • Have strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Have the ability to prioritize work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Have strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
  • Have CNC programming and setup experience preferred.
  • Have experience supporting New Product Introduction (NPI) preferred programs.
  • Have experience working with industrial automation and robotic systems preferred.
  • Have fabrication and machine rebuilding experience preferred.
  • Have Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement experience preferred.
  • Have experience with SAP or Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) preferred.

The Hourly pay scale for this position is between $32.37 - 44.85 - 57.32. Candidates for this role (office-based) must be located in or near the locations displayed above. The pay range/scale displayed above represents Baker Hughes’ good faith estimate of the minimum and maximum for this position at the time of this posting and applies to the possible locations for this position. Baker Hughes will issue a non-bias competitive offer; the salary range posted for this position reflects the projected hiring range for new hires, full-time salaries in some U.S. locations, not including equity or benefits.
