Job summary

Vantedge Medical in Durham, CT is seeking a Tool Maker I to build, repair, and troubleshoot tooling and gauges with moderate supervision, ensuring high operating efficiency and quality.

You will read blueprints, work with dies, fixtures, and gauges, operate presses and related equipment, document changes, and help meet design budgets.

This on-site, full-time role offers first and second shifts, a hands-on manufacturing environment, and opportunities to contribute to continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or vocational technical schooling is preferred.
  • State of Connecticut Tool and Die Maker Journeyman certification preferred.
  • Minimum of three years building and troubleshooting progressive dies.

Responsibilities

  • Build tooling, dies, fixtures, and gauges from blueprints within standards and specs with moderate supervision.
  • Repair and troubleshoot tooling, dies, and fixtures while operating production equipment like presses and feeders.
  • Analyze and provide input during tooling troubleshooting.
  • Inspect work and verify quality using various equipment.
  • Maintain records and update design changes per shop standards.
  • Ensure on-time deliveries within design parameters and tooling budgets.
  • Analyze and improve machining methods to reduce costs and improve quality.
  • Keep a clean, organized, safe work area following 6S standards.
  • Follow all H&M procedures and policies and wear PPE as required.
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities (Idea System).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

About this Opportunity:

This position effectively builds, repairs, and troubleshoots new and existing tooling and gauges with moderate supervision in order to maintain superior operating efficiency, resulting in quality product.

Responsibilities
  • Effectively builds new tooling, dies, fixtures, and gauges from blueprints within established standards and customer specifications with moderate supervision.
  • Effectively repairs and troubleshoots existing tooling, dies, and fixtures to blueprint specifications within established standards while operating production equipment when necessary, including presses, feeders, straighteners, and similar equipment.
  • Properly analyzes and provides input when troubleshooting tooling.
  • Accurately inspects work and verifies quality using a variety of equipment.
  • Maintains thorough and accurate records and updates design changes in accordance with established shop standards.
  • Ensures on-time deliveries within specified design parameters and tooling budgets.
  • Efficiently analyzes and improves machining methods to reduce costs and improve quality.
  • Maintains an organized, clean, and safe work environment by following 6S standards.
  • Properly follows all H&M procedures and policies.
  • Uses the correct personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with job hazard analyses (JHAs) and job requirements. Protective footwear that complies with ASTM F2413 and ASTM F2412 standards is required.
  • Participates in continuous improvement activities, including the Idea System.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • The successful candidate must be able to perform all essential job functions satisfactorily.
  • A high school diploma or vocational technical school diploma is preferred. State of Connecticut Tool and Die Maker Journeyman certification is preferred. A minimum of three years of experience building and troubleshooting progressive dies is required.
  • The candidate must be able to read and interpret documents such as blueprints, part drawings, safety rules, operating instructions, maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals. The ability to write routine reports and correspondence is also required.
  • The candidate must possess basic mathematical skills, including the ability to work with whole numbers, fractions, and decimals, and must be able to apply basic trigonometry and geometry concepts.
  • The candidate must be able to identify problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Availability to work Saturday mornings is required when necessary.
  • State of Connecticut Tool and Die Journeyman certification is preferred.
