Job summary

Precision Castparts seeks a Tool and Die Maker in Ohio to cut, shape, finish, and maintain metal tools and forge diecasts for molds.

You will read blueprints, operate CAD software, and inspect tooling to ensure quality while collaborating with engineers and machinists on fixtures and machine parts. Reliable, safety-minded craftsmanship is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Cuts, shapes, finishes, and maintains metal tools and dies.
  • Repairs dies, molds, and tools; disassembles and reassembles as needed.
  • Reads blueprints and schematics to create/build fixtures, tools, and machine parts.
  • Uses CAD software to design or turn designs into blueprints.
  • Inspects tools and dies for defects and ensures functionality.

Job description

Position Summary

The Tool and Die Maker will cut, shape, finish, and maintain tools made of metal and will forge diecasts to create molds.

Essential Functions
  • Uses tools and dies to build fixtures; creates dies as required to construct new fixtures.
  • Repairs dies, molds, and tools when needed; disassembles molds, jigs, tools, and fixtures, then reassembles when repaired.
  • Reads and understands blueprints and complicated schematics as required to create and build new fixtures, tools, and machine parts.
  • Uses computer-aided design (CAD) software to create designs and/or turn designs into blueprints.
  • Inspects completed tools and dies for signs of imperfection or damage that may affect functionality.
  • Regularly tests all equipment, tools, and machines to ensure they are arranged and set properly and working efficiently.
  • Modifies machines to control speed, material feed, or path of cut as required to ensure a quality product is produced within specifications.
  • Maintains a safe, clean, and well-organized workspace.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Ensure accurate and timely delivery of material, supplies and equipment.

Required Skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to safely and accurately operate all measuring and production equipment.
  • Thorough knowledge of running EDM machines, Bridgeport, surface grinder as well as CNC mills 3 and 5 axis.
  • Working understanding of geometry, trigonometry, and algebra.
  • Thorough understanding of metallic properties.
  • Ability to work independently, and with engineers and machinists.
  • Proficient with computer-aided design (CAD) software.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Able to meet deadlines and be accountable.
  • Able to work flexible hours, off-shifts and weekends as needed to support Maintenance programs and training.
  • Be a motivated self-starter with a strong sense of urgency and the ability to work independently.
  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere with a customer focus approach to support Operations and safety.

  • Highly organized, self-motivated individual who can work independently as well as in a collaborative team environment.
Experience & Education
  • Successful completion of an apprentice program with a licensed professional or established company required.
  • On-the job training available.
  • Tool and diemaker certification required.
Physical Demands

Infrequently squatting, bending, kneeling, reaching, stair climbing, ladder climbing, other climbing,walking of rough surfaces. Occasionally bending, lifting up to 25 lbs. Frequently sitting in a chair, near moving machinery.
