Job summary

Shure in Niles, IL is seeking a Tool Engineering intern to assist with designing, developing, and documenting tools, fixtures and dies. You will learn how the Tool Engineering Department supports manufacturing and project teams across plants.

You will participate in schedules, design reviews, and implementation, collaborating with senior tool engineers and teammates to ensure timely delivery of tasks and adherence to standards.

Qualifications

• Working towards a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Proficiency in CAD; Siemens NX software desired.
• Knowledge of dimensional tolerancing and best drafting practices.
• Knowledge of typical shop practices and ability to design around these practices.
• Ability to research and compile information to complete a tool / fixture design.
• Good technical communication skills to convey design intent.
• Ability to apply company policies and procedures to resolve routine issues.
• Ability to follow standard instructions, practices and procedures in tool and fixture design.
• Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis

Responsibilities

• Assist with designing, developing, and implementing new or improved tools, fixtures and gages
• Assist with documentation of assembly and component drawings of existing designs
• Learn how the Tool Engineering Department supports manufacturing engineering for all plants and project teams
• Participate in creation of schedules, design reviews and implementation for tools, fixtures and dies
• Work across multiple levels in a team environment and one-on-one
• Work on multiple projects and stay within required schedules
• Assist with documentation of equipment and process modifications to improve production efficiencies, manufacturing techniques and production yields
• Perform other engineering duties as assigned
• Begin projects with scope limited to specific tasks under close supervision of senior tool engineers
