GZQSO in Sterling Heights, MI is hiring a Tool & Die Maker for a direct-hire opportunity. You will build, repair, maintain and modify dies, tooling, fixtures and gauges used in a production environment.

The ideal candidate has at least five years of Tool & Die experience, with strong new die build capabilities. Responsibilities include reading blueprints, setting up machines, measuring parts with precision tools, performing die changes and supporting production with quality dies.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of Tool & Die experience in manufacturing.
• New die build experience strongly preferred.
• Experience with die repair, troubleshooting and modification.
• Read blueprints and tolerances; understand machining specs.
• Journeyman card is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, layouts and specs to determine machining requirements.
• Plan sequence of operations to fabricate, repair or modify dies and tooling.
• Set up and operate CNC and conventional machines including lathes and mills.
• Machine, grind, file, shim, adjust components to meet tolerances.
• Fit and assemble die components, gauges and tooling.
• Troubleshoot, repair and modify production dies as needed.
• Inspect dies for dimensions, surface finish and defects.
• Measure stock with micrometers and calipers to spec.
• Move dies and tooling using forklifts and overhead cranes.
• Assist with die changes and first-piece approvals.

Shift Premium:$0.75/hour
Pay:$35.00–$39.00/hour, based on experience

Job Summary

We are seeking an experiencedTool & Die Makerfor a direct-hire opportunity in Sterling Heights. This position is responsible for building, repairing, maintaining, and modifying dies, tooling, fixtures, gauges, and related equipment used in a production environment.

The ideal candidate will have at least five years of Tool & Die experience within a manufacturing or production setting. Candidates with strongnew die build experiencewill also be considered.

Key Responsibilities

• Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, layouts, and specifications to determine machining and assembly requirements.
• Plan the sequence of operations required to fabricate, repair, or modify dies and tooling.
• Calculate and verify dimensions, tolerances, sizes, and specifications for parts and assemblies.
• Set up and operate conventional and CNC machine tools, including lathes, mills, drill presses, grinders, and related equipment.
• Machine, grind, file, shim, and adjust components to achieve proper fit and required tolerances.
• Fit and assemble die components, gauges, fixtures, and tooling.
• Troubleshoot, repair, and modify production dies as needed.
• Inspect completed dies and components for proper dimensions, surface finish, contour, and defects.
• Measure, mark, and lay out metal stock using micrometers, rulers, scribes, protractors, and other precision measuring instruments.
• Cut, shape, and trim material using saws, shears, machining equipment, and hand tools.
• Design and fabricate jigs, fixtures, and templates used to support production and machining operations.
• Assist with die changes, troubleshooting, and first-piece approvals.
• Use forklifts and overhead cranes to move dies, tooling, and other heavy equipment.
• Perform additional Tool & Die responsibilities as required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum 5 years of Tool & Die experience, preferably within a production/manufacturing environment.
• Candidates withnew die build experiencewill also be considered.
• Experience with die repair, troubleshooting, and modification.
• Journeyman card in Tool & Die Making or Machining preferred, but not required.
• Deep draw die experience is a plus.
• Welding experience is preferred, but not required.
• Ability to read blueprints and understand machining tolerances and specifications.
• Working knowledge of mathematics and precision measuring equipment.
• Experience safely operating machine tools, forklifts, and overhead cranes is preferred.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and walk for an 8+ hour shift.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. without assistance.
• Ability to perform frequent and repetitive motions.
• Ability to work safely in a manufacturing environment with elevated noise levels.
