Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Set up, operate, and maintain die heads and tooling used in PVC pipe extrusion production.
  • Perform complete tooling/die changeovers, including installation of air plugs and heaters.
  • Repair, clean, inspect, and store tooling to meet production standards.
  • Inspect die components for chrome wear and defects to prevent issues.
  • Measure barrels, screws, and tooling with precision equipment.
  • Diagnose mechanical issues and report to maintenance to reduce downtime.
  • Maintain tooling inventory and organize tooling racks.
  • Operate forklifts safely to transport tooling and materials.
  • Keep a clean, organized work environment and document maintenance.
  • Complete production and quality records; follow OSHA, LOTO procedures.
  • Assist in training new employees on tooling setup and safe work practices.
  • Collaborate with maintenance, production, and quality teams to meet schedules.

Job DetailsJob Location: FONTANA, CA 92337Salary Range: $25.50 - $34.00 HourlyWe are looking for a skilled Tool & Die Operator with experience in manufacturing and extrusion. Experienced in setting up, repairing, maintaining, and troubleshooting tooling and die equipment to support efficient production. Proficient in die changeovers, mechanical repairs, precision measurements, preventive maintenance, and forklift operation. Strong commitment to workplace safety, quality control, and minimizing equipment downtime in fast-paced manufacturing environments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Set up, operate, and maintain die heads and tooling used in PVC pipe extrusion production.
  • Perform complete tooling and die changeovers, including installation of air plugs, tank gaskets, chains, heater bands, and pin heaters.
  • Repair, clean, inspect, and store tooling while ensuring dies meet production and quality standards.
  • Inspect die components for chrome wear, damage, and defects to prevent production issues.
  • Measured barrels, screws, and tooling components using precision measuring equipment.
  • Diagnose mechanical problems and reported equipment issues to maintenance and supervisors to reduce downtime.
  • Maintain tooling inventory by labeling, organizing, and storing die parts and tooling racks.
  • Operate forklifts safely to transport tooling, dies, raw materials, and finished products.
  • Maintain a clean, organized work environment.
  • Completed production reports, maintenance documentation, and quality records accurately.
  • Followed OSHA regulations, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and all company safety procedures.
  • Assist in training new employees on tooling setup, equipment operation, and safe work practices.
  • Collaborated with maintenance, production, and quality teams to meet production schedules and quality objectives
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High School diploma or recognized equivalent. Training: The first year will be on the job training, learning the manufacturing process, and the electrical equipment throughout the plant. Continuous training on the job as new equipment is installed, and projects are designed and developed.

COMPUTER SKILLS: None required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports. Ability to communicate effectively with employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as, fractions, percentages, decimals, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

  • Ability to feel objects, textures, size, and shape and to determine temperatures by touching of skin, primarily by that of fingertips.
  • Ability to grasp tools (manual as well as powered) and use them in accordance with a safe working manner so as not to injure oneself or fellow employees. (i.e., power saws, drills, hammers, presses, latches, etc.)
  • Sight capability to safely operate at arm’s length machinery and power and/or hand tools needed to accomplish the requirement of the job assignments for this position.
