  • Cleans, repairs, and maintains die heads and die tooling.
  • Cleans and repairs belling heads.
  • Locates, repairs, and stores all tooling associated with PVC extrusion.
  • Sets up die racks and labels all die parts.
  • Inspects all die parts for chrome wear or damage; ships out for repair if necessary.
  • Sets up heater bands and pin heaters on equipment and checks for proper operation.
  • Prepares die set-ups for changeovers (air plugs, tank gaskets, chains) and assists with all changeovers.
  • Keeps records of all tooling sent out for repair or loaned to other locations.
  • Measures barrels and screws, keeps accurate records of barrels and screws measured, and sends them out for rebuild as required.
  • Performs preventive maintenance work on plant equipment as directed.

To perform all jobs associated with tooling as directed and to prepare, set up, and maintain tooling and parts required for changeovers. To establish records associated with tooling, sizing sleeves, barrels and screws, and changeovers. To maintain and control the quality of tooling as well as its shipment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Cleans, repairs, and maintains die heads and die tooling.
  2. Cleans and repairs belling heads.
  3. Locates, repairs, and stores all tooling associated with PVC extrusion.
  4. Sets up die racks and labels all die parts.
  5. Inspects all die parts for chrome wear or damage; ships out for repair if necessary.
  6. Sets up heater bands and pin heaters on equipment and checks for proper operation.
  7. Prepares die set-ups for changeovers (air plugs, tank gaskets, chains) and assists with all changeovers.
  8. Keeps records of all tooling sent out for repair or loaned to other locations.
  9. Measures barrels and screws, keeps accurate records of barrels and screws measured, and sends them out for rebuild as required.
  10. Performs preventive maintenance work on plant equipment as directed.
  11. Performs minor carpentry work around and in the plant (e.g., builds storage shelves, crates parts and equipment for shipment).
  12. Performs routine cleaning and painting of plant equipment and facilities as required.
  13. Teaches, advocates, and uses safe working practices at all times and reports hazardous conditions at all times.
  14. Keeps maintenance equipment and working areas clean at all times.
  15. Directs the activities of others when assigned; instructs and follows up the activities of inexperienced employees.
  16. Fills out records when required.
  17. Performs all other jobs associated with tooling as directed, and other assignments as directed by the Plant Manager.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

One-year certificate from college or technical school and/or two to four years of related experience with die heads and die tooling, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, bore gauges) required. PVC extrusion tooling experience preferred.

COMPUTER SKILLS

Able to use a tablet to receive, complete, and document work orders and tooling records.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  1. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee frequently is required to walk, reach with hands and arms, and talk and hear.
  2. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or climb stairs, and to climb ladders and work at heights up to 50 feet.
  3. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
  4. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
  1. Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment. Work involves frequent lifting of materials and product.
  2. Machinery operation requires the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to: eye safety glasses, hearing protectors, work boots, and gloves.
  3. Loose-fitting clothes and jewelry are not permitted.
