Job summary

NEXXTA, a U.S.-based manufacturing partner with four Great Lakes facilities, seeks an experienced Tool & Die Specialist in Mishawaka, IN. You will assemble, repair, and maintain injection mold tools, read blueprints, and verify tolerances while coordinating with production teams.

Responsibilities include wiring, hydraulic work, CAD sizing, and tool transport. A Journeyman card is preferred, with 5+ years in tool & die or 8 years with no card, and proficiency with CNC/inspection equipment is

Qualifications

  • Journeyman's Card in Tool & Die Making preferred; 5+ years experience, or 8 years documented experience without the Card.
  • 3–5 years using hand-operated tool room equipment in plastic injection mold repair or mold maintenance.
  • Knowledge of plastic injection molding tool design and construction.
  • Knowledge of plastic injection mold terminology.
  • Ability to read blueprints and tool drawings.
  • Ability to read machine shop gages and indicators.
  • Basic computer skills (MS Office, CAD).
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and attention to detail skills.
  • Effective communication with team members.
  • Problem solving with data-driven conclusions.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Willingness to learn new technologies.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects concurrently.
  • CNC wire and sinker experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble and disassemble injection molding tools for maintenance, repairs, and revisions.
  • Inspect tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures for condition and conformance to standards.
  • Visualize product to determine materials and machines needed.
  • Set up and operate tool room equipment to build, repair, revise molds and related tools.
  • Maneuver and secure machined parts on surface plate or worktable.
  • Fit and assemble parts into assemblies.
  • Use hand tools, gages, indicators to verify conformance.
  • Connect wiring and hydraulic lines for electrical and hydraulic components.
  • Compute dimensions, plan layout and determine assembly methods.
  • Verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances with gages and indicators.
  • Use CAD to determine size of components to be machined.
  • Recommend design modifications for mold assemblies.
  • Draw sketches of concept ideas for team evaluation.
  • Observe injection molding machine operation to detect malfunctions and address problems.
  • Close out work orders and enter tooling notes in database.
  • Transport tools and dies between production and tool room with a forklift.
  • Operate overhead hoist/crane to position tools and dies.

With in-house R&D and engineering, we help customers strengthen supply chains and build confidently in AmericaJOB DUTIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Assemble and disassemble a variety of injection molding tools for general maintenance, repairs, and revisions.Inspect tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures for condition and conformance to tooling standards.Comprehend specifications such as blueprints, sketches, models, or descriptions.Visualize product to determine materials required and machines used to fabricate parts.Setup and operate tool room equipment needed to build, repair, revise and service molds, fixtures and related tools in a correct and timely manner. Including, but not limited to: manual and/or CNC controlled lathes, milling machines, and grinders.Maneuver and secure machined parts and tools on a surface plate or worktable.Fit and assemble smooth and contoured parts together and into assemblies.Use hand tools, machine shop gages, indicators and other measurement equipment to verify conformanceConnect wiring and hydraulic lines for electrical and hydraulic components.Compute dimensions, plan layout and determine assembly method and sequence of operations.Verify conformance of dimensions, alignments, and clearances of machined parts to specifications with the use of hand tools, machine shop gages, indicators and other measurement equipment.Use CAD system to determine size of components to be machined.Recommend design modifications regarding construction and function of mold assemblies.Draw or sketch design of concept ideas to be evaluated by other team members.Observe injection molding machine operation to detect tool and die malfunctions, provide solutions to address the problems.Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.Close out electronic work orders for tooling projects and enter tooling notes into electronic database.Transports tools and dies between production area and tool room using a forklift.Operate overhead hoist/crane to position tools and dies.This list of duties is not exhaustive. Duties may change or be added by management as needed.QUALIFICATIONS:Journeyworkers Card in Tool & Die Making with a minimum of 5 years’ experience is preferred; will consider eight years of documented experience without a Journeyworkers Card.3 to 5 years of experience using hand operated tool room equipment with experience in a tool room involving plastic injection mold repair or mold maintenance.Knowledge of Plastic Injection Molding tool design and construction.Knowledge of plastic injection mold making terminology.Able to read and comprehend blue prints and tool drawings.Able to read machine shop gages and indicators.Basic computer skills (MS Office products, CAD)Demonstrated organizational, interpersonal, and attention to detail skills.Ability to communicate effectively with team members or other employees in the organization.Ability to define problems, collect and analyze objective data and draw valid conclusions.Good verbal and written communication skills.Willingness to learn new technologies.Ability to handle multiple projects concurrently.CNC wire and sinker experience is a plus.
