Job summary

Whirlpool Corporation in Racine, WI is offering an apprenticeship path toward becoming a Journeyman Tool and Die Maker. You will learn layout, fabrication and repair of dies, jigs and gauges under supervision, applying shop math and metal properties to produce high-precision tooling.

You will study blueprints and 3D models, operate lathes and milling machines, and assist with heat treatment and system installations. Strong math, blueprint reading and teamwork are essential for success.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Strong foundation in shop math including geometry and trigonometry.
• Basic machine shop skills or CNC experience.
• Previous experience with toolroom machinery.
• ISE-specific understanding of punch press principles.
• Strong communication, blueprint reading and troubleshooting abilities.

Responsibilities

• Study blueprints, sketches and 3D models to visualize parts and plan materials and machines.
• Learn to compute dimensions, layouts and sequences of operations.
• Set up and operate lathes, milling machines, shapers and grinders to meet specs.
• Measure, mark and scribe metal stock for machining with accuracy.
• Fit and assemble parts using hand tools and power grinders.
• Verify dimensions and clearances with dial indicators and micrometers.
• Assist in heat-treating tools or parts to achieve hardness and durability.
• Assist with wiring and hydraulic line installation for components.
• Review used dies and jigs and sketch improvements for tooling design.
