Job summary

ER Wagner in Brookfield, IL is seeking a Tool & Die Maker for a full-time on-site role. You will build, repair, and maintain tooling for stamping and forming, read blueprints, operate Mills, Lathes, grinders, and EDM, and work with engineering to improve tooling.

This position requires strong GD&T knowledge, precision measurement, and a hands-on, collaborative approach; shifts are Mon-Thu, 10 hours daily.

Qualifications

• Reading and interpreting blueprints, CAD drawings, and specifications, with understanding of tolerances and GD&T.
• Hands-on setup of manual and CNC machines, including mills and lathes.
• Experience with stamping and forming operations and tooling materials.

Responsibilities

Role Description

The Tool & Die Maker is a full-time, on-site role based in Brookfield, IL. This role is responsible for building, maintaining, and repairing tools, dies, fixtures, and related equipment used in stamping, forming, and assembly operations. Day-to-day tasks include reading and interpreting blueprints and technical drawings, setting up and operating manual and CNC machine tools, and performing precision machining, grinding, fitting, and assembly of components. The Tool & Die Maker will troubleshoot tooling issues on the production floor, perform adjustments and preventative maintenance, and collaborate with engineering and production teams to improve tooling performance, safety, and efficiency. The role also involves performing quality checks using measurement tools, documenting work performed, and following established safety, quality, and continuous improvement procedures.

Qualifications

• Strong technical skills in tool and die making, including precision machining, grinding, fitting, and assembly of tooling components.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, CAD drawings, and technical specifications, with solid understanding of tolerances and GD&T.
• Hands-on experience setting up and operating manual and CNC machine tools such as mills, lathes, surface grinders, and EDM equipment.
• Proficiency using precision measurement instruments (e.g., micrometers, calipers, indicators) to verify dimensions and ensure quality.
• Demonstrated problem-solving skills for diagnosing tooling and production issues and implementing effective corrective actions.
• Knowledge of stamping and forming operations, tooling materials, heat treatment, and safe work practices in a manufacturing environment.
• Effective communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate closely with engineering, maintenance, and production personnel.
• High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of a tool & die apprenticeship program or technical/vocational training strongly preferred.
• Prior experience as a Tool & Die Maker or in a similar precision tooling role in automotive or industrial manufacturing is highly beneficial.
