Job description

SUMMARY

Responsible for building and repairing various types, sizes, and shapes of jigs, fixtures, tools, and dies. Assemble and test complex tools and dies on manufacturing equipment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Plan and perform bench and machine operations to construct, adjust, and repair tools, jigs, fixtures, and gauges with intricate designs and tight tolerances.
2. Set up and operate machinery such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, and grinders to machine parts, ensuring conformance to specifications.
3. Fit and assemble jigs, fixtures, tools, and dies; conduct test runs and troubleshoot to produce products to specifications.
4. Visualize the finished product, perform mathematical calculations, and select allowances for processes like springing, lapping, grinding, fitting, and finishing.
5. Read and interpret blueprints or work from verbal/written instructions.
6. Utilize hand tools of the trade.
7. Perform precise machine operations requiring various setups to maintain close tolerances.
8. Conduct tool tryouts, identify faults or defective materials, and implement corrective actions.
9. Operate under general supervision.
10. Contribute to EMS and Quality policies, participate in EMS programs, and adhere to environmental and quality standards.
11. Potentially serve as an internal auditor for ISO 9001/IATF16949 and ISO 14001 systems.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assist in training Tool Room Apprentices.
• Support Punch Press or Fourslide setup and overhaul.
• Collaborate with tool designers to provide manufacturing capability input on new parts.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Completion of a formal apprenticeship or equivalent training/program, or four+ years of Tool & Die experience in the metal industry.

SPECIFIC SKILLS/REQUIREMENTS

Accuracy, detail orientation, dexterity, and ability to read complex blueprints. Effective communication skills, both oral and written. Ability to interpret instructions in various formats.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Must hear regularly, perform high mental and visual effort, and handle contact with oils and sharp materials. Frequent standing, walking, handling, reaching, and fine motor skills required. Vision abilities include close, distance, depth perception, and focus adjustment. Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs occasionally, with accommodations as needed.
